TMBDOS! Intermission #21: Halloween Double Feature Ideas.

Lee is back for Intermission #21. Originally he was going to review a couple of horror movies that everyone else and their dead relatives have already seen and talked about, but thinking better of it, instead he decided to take a look at upcoming horror releases for 2018, and give his off-the-cuff reactions to them. Then he ends off sorting through his horror film collection and giving 12 humble suggestions for double feature watches for this Halloween night.

TMBDOS! Episode 107: "Deathdream" (1974).

Lee and Paul continue their horror-filled October of 2017 by looking at the Bob Clark-directed classic "Deathdream" from 1974. The conversation revolves around how America started to change in the wake of the Vietnam war, and the changes in attitude society had towards returning soldiers in comparison to the vets of WWII. The hosts also talk about how effective or not all aspects of this low budget production come off. Some listener comments are also read.

TMBDOS! Episode 104: "Re-Animator" (1985).

Lee and Daniel are back to finish-off this run of H.P. Lovecraft adaptations with a fairly in-depth discussion about Stuart Gordon's "Re-Animator" (1985). Also on deck are two short films: "The Call of Cthulhu" (2005) & "Out of Mind: The Stories of H.P. Lovecraft" - the former being an adaptation of Lovecraft's story, done in the style of a 1920s-era silent film; the latter being both an adaptation of "The Case of Charles Dexter Ward", as well as an exploration of Lovecraft's themes and general thoughts behind what he wrote and why. TMBDOS! Episode 103: "From Beyond" (1986).

Back for more Lovecraft-inspired weirdness this week, Lee and Daniel jump headfirst into the kinky, goo-covered Stuart Gordon adaptation "From Beyond" (1986). There's lots of conversation about how effectively the film adapts and branches out from the original source material, and if it manages to effectively balance the BDSM elements and special effects with Lovecraft's central themes. Lovecraft's own fears and thoughts on race and sexuality are also briefly talked about. Aside from that, some opening talk about what the hosts have watched is also included.

TMBDOS! Episode 102: "The Resurrected" (1991).

Lee and Paul are back to check out another H.P. Lovecraft-inspired film. This time it's the fairly obscure "The Resurrected" (1991). Although this is a shorter than usual episode, the hosts go over how close the film does or does not stick to the source material , "The Case of Charles Dexter Ward", and Lee has added some clips of him reading short excerpts from the story.

TMBDOS! Episode 101: "Necronomicon" (1993).

Lee and Paul are here (but not really sober) this week to kick off a run of episodes looking at H. P. Lovecraft-inspired films. In this episode they check out the somewhat overlooked "Necronomicon" (1993). Does this horror anthology manage to live up to the lofty term "Lovecraftian"? Regardless, is it any good? Finally sitting down to do an episode that was planned months beforehand, Lee and Paul chat about John Russo's "Midnight" (1982) & Joseph Ellison's "Don't Go in the House" (1979). Paul also chats a bit about his time attending the 2016 Living Dead Weekend and the people he talked to at the event, including Russo himself. This one is pretty loose and lacking fucks, as both hosts are drunk, but it's generally a pretty fun conversation, and they do try to review the films. What more can you ask for on a free podcast? NOTHING! That's what.

TMBDOS! Episode 84: The Best Things We Watched in 2016.

The year of 2016 is over, so time to talk about what movies the hosts liked best! Like in previous best-of episodes, Lee and Daniel come together to talk about the best films they've watched for the first time in the year, not strictly just films from that year. Lee failed to realise that he had a top eleven instead of a top ten. Daniel also has a short list of performances he enjoyed from first-time watches this past year. This is a very casual and lightly edited episode, not quite up to our usual shitty standards, but the conversation is quite fun. TMBDOS! wishes all of our listeners a happy new year. Stay safe. First up is the Keanu Reeves cyberpunk action film "Johnny Mnemonic" (1995) and then it's the gung-ho space marine satire "Starship Troopers" (1997). TMBDOS! Episode 70: ”Tommy” (1975) & ”Parents” (1989).

Lee and Daniel are taking a couple-episode break before jumping in to what will be an extensive Spaghetti Western series. For this episode they are joined by their friend, fellow podcaster, musician, and published writer Kit Power, who suggested the two films for review this time: "Tommy" (1975) & "Parents" (1989). Because this was recorded a bit later in the week and way much earlier in the day than what Lee and Dan are used to, the whisky hits them much harder. They fully blame Kit for this, BTW. At any rate, the conversation goes deep in to both films, and a lot of both fun and serious issues are brought up. This might be one of the best of all time for the podcast when it's all said and done, even if there's a few audio glitches here and there (sorry for that, but it's nowhere near un-listenable). TMBDOS! Episode 60: ”2001: A Space Odyssey” (1968) & ”2010: The Year We Make Contact” (1984).

Lee and Daniel are back for the first episode of a three episode sci-fi break before moving on to continue their sex comedy series they started last year. Since they'll be jumping right back into tits and other adult low brow content, they decided to get really damn high brow and look at what is considered one of the greatest films ever made... and it's not-so-loved sequel. In this episode they look at Stanley Kubrick's masterpiece "2001: A Space Odyssey" from 1968, and then Peter Hyams' 1984 sequel "2010: The Year We Make Contact". A lot of the conversation revolves around comparing the books to the films; Lee and Daniel's personal connections to the films and their source material; how the sequel stacks up to the original film; and how dated these films feel in the post 2010 world of today. There is no pretense here about covering every aspect of the films, as there's already been far too much written and said about just the production of "2001" alone. Lee and Daniel do try to touch on every aspect of both films to some degree, but the conversation is far more casual than it is scholarly.

They Must Be Destroyed On Sight! Episode 50: George A. Romero's "Dawn of the Dead" (1978).

This is it, TMBDOS has finally made it to fifty official episodes, and now it's time for Lee, Daniel and Paul to tackle the film that provided this humble bit of audio nonsense its name and mascot. Yes, George A. Romero's zombie classic "Dawn of the Dead" is reviewed in exhausting detail, peppering in some music clips and sound bites for good measure. Sadly Paul could not join in on the recording during the planned Friday night, so after covering the film on that night, Lee and Daniel came back on Saturday night to continue the conversation with Paul. As a native of Pennsylvania, Paul has some unique insights about the production and what the film means to the local area and the people there to this day. Also covered: the film "Mystery Road" from 2013, that Daniel had recommended in last week's episode, which essentially turns into a mini review of its own. If you've got 2 hours and 43 minutes to kill, this episode might be for you.
